A mold inspection is an optional inspection that you may choose when buying a home.  Is there visible mold on the floor joists in the basement?  Does the home smell musty?  Are the basement walls covered so that you can’t see the actual wall and there are signs of moisture?  These are just a few signs that you may want to add a mold inspection.  A mold inspection consists of taking samples from surfaces as well and from the air.  Interior and exterior airborne samples are compared to see if the interior levels are elevated compared to the baseline (exterior).  The samples are sent to the lab and then it’s determined if the amount and type of mold found are potential threats to your safety.  Mold can come in many colors.  Whether or not it’s a problem is determined when the number of spores and type of mold is known.
